I am using Netfirms for my hosting and my domain but I can not figure out how to set a custom domain.I have the options of using eather a "a name record", which i used when the server was on my computer and cname. Can anyone help me ?

You also need to buy a DNS server to be able to make an A record. Once you buy a DNS server, they can tell you what to put as your nameservers. When you buy a domain name you literally get just a name, not a server to redirect traffic to another IP.
