Yes, but it would always end on something like .hostorde.net, .mcalias.com, .gamename.net or .mc-srv.com. On the other hand, if you already own a domain, you will totally be able to use your domain as the termination, like "play.electriccurrent.net" or "server.electriccurrent.net".

You buy it. They usually come with a website host service, but you can also only buy the domain, in places like Godaddy.
